Ad for Pursettes
tampons
Movie Life magazine, U.S.A., November 1965
Pursettes ads ranged from awfully
gray (and the one below), to testimonials,
to colorful
cartoons apparently aimed at a young audience,
an audience still hard to reach in 1965 - and even
today. Taboos
worked against any woman using tampons but
especially young ones and virgins.
Read the text about "single women," women who had never had
sexual intercourse. Oh, of course. Times have
changed.
Like the earlier Dale
tampon, Pursettes had a lubricated tip for easier
insertion. And like most of the earliest tampons,
Pursettes came mostly without an
insertion tube.
See the insertion tube tampon and
box.
