Women probably made their own
pads, belts, tampons and sponges
for millenia before being able
to buy them in stores - when
they didn't just bleed into
their clothing, a fact that
shocks some people.
A German exhibit in the 1990s
showed many German menstrual
products, as you see below and on
the following pages.

Wandel von 1900 bis heute,"
(Menstruation: Changing Menstrual
Hygiene from 1900 to Today) the
catalog of the exhibition at the
Lorsch branch of the Hessian State
Museum in Darmstadt, Germany, that
occurred from 26 November 1998 to
31 July 1999.
