The 1920s through the 1940s were
the golden years of American
illustration, and the beautiful
black-and-white ad right below is
just one example. I find the 60s
ad a bit clunky, as photos often
are. (See the first photo showing
an actual
person in a menstrual
hygiene ad.) But it's effective.
Manufacturers of pads and
tampons have often emphasized the
freedom their products gave women,
which, of course, is relative. The
thin pads of today, worn without a
belt
- a development of the early 1970s
- are much more tolerable than
these pads from the 20s and 60s.
